SCARY SALES - how much are you worth?

SCARY SALES

Scary Sales

‘Scary Sales', a written manifesto from the perspective of mass products. The auditory story challenges you to think about the monetary values of goods arising from mass production. Is our economic system based on planned obsolescence? Are we all born consumers? How do we determine value? How much are we worth? The manifesto is visually supported by the ‘scary sales’ couch. The participant, who is seated on the couch when listening to the manifesto, can therefor experience how it feels to be one of these mass commodities.

I wrote the manifesto from an "emotionally sustainable" context, in which revaluation has top priority. It is a call to develop a new bond between consumer and commodities. In a world suffering from overproduction and shocking working conditions with a huge ecological impact, it is necessary to question consumer purchasing behaviour. How can a product become valuable again instead of disposable?
